Last son of the planet Krypton and adopted by humble Kansas farmers, Clark Kent grew to develop powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Hiding his true nature as a mild-mannered reporter, Clark dons a costume designed in the likeness of his homeworld to become Superman, Earth's mightiest and most valiant defender.
As the prototypical superhero, Superman is a mirror to his generation and the answer to our greatest problems. In the Golden Age, he was champion against greed and cruelty during the Great Depression who turned to dictators overseas in World War II. In the Silver Age, weird tales of domestic anxiety gave birth to a Superman family, including Supergirl, even as he helped to form the Justice League of America. Although the post-Crisis world would return Superman to his lonely roots, he was soon joined by his imperfect clone, Superboy, after his death and subsequent rebirth, then married to his long-time leading lady, Lois Lane. And yet after the world altering events of Flashpoint, Superman is once again young and single, a champion of the people and man of tomorrow.
