As the Bronze Age began, steps were taken to update Superman by moving him from the Daily Planet as a reporter to a position at Galaxy Media as an anchorman. This new Superman also possessed greatly enhanced powers and was, for a short time, even immune to kryptonite.
This era is known for two short, but brilliant, stories by writer Alan Moore in a rare mainstream work. The first story is titled "For The Man Who Has Everything" and features Superman's birthday and an unexpected attack from the intergalactic warlord, Mongul, which gives Superman everything he ever wanted only to tear it away again. Moore's second epic "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" features the final story of the Silver Age (or pre-Crisis) Superman in a final showdown with his worst enemies as his secret identity is revealed. |
