Marvel's first family, bonded by blood, marriage, and friendship... Reed Richard, Ben Grimm, Sue Storm, and Johnny Storm were exposed to mysterious cosmic radiation that transformed them into Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, the Invisible Girl, and the Human Torch. Led by the unparalleled genius of Reed Richards, they explore the unknown and the fantastic... not only as superheroes but as imaginauts.
The Fantastic Four hold the rare distinction of being a title whose earliest adventures are most classic introducing a stunning number of concepts to the Marvel universe including the Inhumans, the Skrulls, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Black Panther, Wakanda, Franklin Richards, and so much more. It boasts the record-setting unbroken collaboration of Marvel founders Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for over 100 issues.
The title received a much needed revamp from influential creator John Byrne in the eighties which, aside from telling fantastic sci-fi stories, helped to change the perception of Sue Storm as she changed her name to the Invisible Woman. Similarly, the later Waid/Weiringo run returned much of the characterization and whimsy to the team, while the much more recent works of Millar/Hitch and Jonathan Hickman have tried to expand on the pioneering spirit and imagination that characterized classic Fantastic Four.
