As the Silver Age came to comic books, its first superhero went through a period of self-examination and unrepressed expression. Drawn straight from the therapy sessions of editor Mort Weisinger, Superman's domestic adventures of the 1950s featured interesting new villains like the world conquering Brainiac, the android with the heart of kryptonite Metallo, and the power-sucking Parasite. Even Lex Luthor, who was formerly a minor villain, rose to become his twisted archnemesis. Perhaps most importantly, Superman finally found a sidekick of sorts when he discovered a rocket baring his cousin, Kara, who would soon take the name of Supergirl.
