David Michelinie's run is regarded as the classic run on the series as it focused more on characterization and political intrigue tied to Stark's company. It is most remembered for the Demon in the Bottle storyline featuring Tony Stark's admission of alcoholism. This is still one of the few times a major superhero has been known to have such a dramatic human flaw. New villains Justin Hammer and Obediah Stane would attack not only Iron Man and his friends, but Stark's corporate empire.
This run abandoned familiar supporting characters Happy Hogun and Pepper Potts for new Stark employees Bethany Cabe and Bambi Arbogast. However, the most significant addition was James Rhodes who would become Tony's best friend and replacement. |
