Beginning with the epic Extremis storyline which saw Tony transform himself into part machine, the title quickly became tied into the crossover events of the time. In Civil War, Tony Stark supports the national Super-Human Registration Act and must capture his former allies, including Captain America, to preserve law. In recognition of his work, Tony is appointed the new head of S.H.I.E.L.D., effectively placing him in command of national security.
