With the Avenger's popularity rising, they received their first spin-off with West Coast Avengers, a secondary team based in Los Angeles. While they could easily be thought of as the second string cast, the unusual mix of character dynamics often brought a rough, experimental flavor that was missing from the primary title. Led by Hawkeye, the team included Wonder Man, Tigra, Mockingbird, and Iron Man (then piloted by James Rhodes), later joined by Hank Pym as their scientific adviser.
