Frank Miller made his comic book debut in Daredevil. Originally only providing the artwork, Frank Miller soon became writer giving the title a very authentic crime noir tone. This served not only as an influential highpoint for the series, but was also a forerunner in a movement toward sophistication within the superhero genre. Miller's most memorable creation was the assassin femme fatale, Elektra, whose romantic history with Daredevil led to a tragic ending. Miller also introduced the mystic ninja cult known as the Hand and Matt's childhood mentor, the blind warrior simply called Stick. Miller briefly left the series only to return with Born Again, a brutal story featuring Daredevil's identity falling into the hands of his worst enemy and the subsequent damage as his life is torn to pieces.
Miller's run was followed with a lengthy run by Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr. who introduced Typhoid Mary, an assassin created by the Kingpin and suffering from multiple personality disorder. Instinctively changing her manner, voice, and even her scent, she could attack Daredevil in both of his identities without him knowing. |
