Blind lawyer Matt Murdock set a different tone in the Marvel universe with artists Bill Everett and Wally Wood setting the tale squarely in the detective noir genre. Although the character would become dark and morose, the original Daredevil was light-hearted and whimsical, taking great joy in his battle against crime and finding clever ways to maintain his secret identity from co-workers Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. Originally shown in yellow and black, this was soon changed to the familiar red. Although Daredevil had several signature villains in his early years, none of them had a lasting impact.
